I got a male Betta today and got a 2L (1/2 gallon) aquarium. It looks like this:

I haven’t gotten the bamboo yet, because I didn’t think it was necessary, but after some research I realized that my Betta will get lonely and bored.
The pet store told me I didn’t need to heat the tank, but a Betta is a tropical fish and i was wondering if it’s okay without a heater.
Also, will my Betta make a bubble nest? What are signs of a healthy Betta? a non healthy Betta? How long do Betta fish live?
I bought my Betta fish because i liked how he changed color in the light, are Betta’s supposed to be brightly colored? Because mine isn’t, his top of his body is redish and the rest of his body is white (or a light blue in the sunlight).
I really don’t want him to die! I want to take really good care of him!
I know a few people who had this tank and love it! I just want to make sure my Betta will be okay in it

I understand how you feel because everybody (well, most people) want to be the best of the best owners to their pets. When you think of a pet fish, the breeds that come to mind are Beta’s and Goldfish. Neither of them are simple to care for. Goldfish produce a bunch of waste, and Beta fish need ATLEAST 5 gallon tank WITH A HEATER!
I am not scolding you because you thought you were doing everything right with this fish, but to be honest, you are not. Store employees at pet stores can care less about the fish. They just want to sell sell sell them. They don’t care who they sell them to! They just want the money! So, when people tell you Beta fish are fine in fish bowls, they really aren’t. Here are facts that you need to know for owning a Beta fish:
Beta fish require atleast a 5 gallon fish tank. They really enjoy eating Frozen Brine Shrimp in the cubes the best, but they will still eat fish flakes. Beta fish do need a heater, because they are tropical fish. They also need a filter, because every fish produces waste. Your fish will not get lonely. Beta fish are meant to be alone. I believe that some signs of a healthy beta are when its active and when they make a bubble nest. You should get it a nice bigger tank, about 5 gallons with gravel and some hiding spots like plants so that it can thrive and live happily ever after there ! I dont think that betas need a bamboo plant i have one in a ten and it is alive with 3 african dwarf frogs right now. Betas live for aobut 2-4 years with proper care.
