if you want to record more than one people at a time, you’re going to need an audio interface and some more mics (drum mics too). a keyboard/midi controller will be useful if you you want to record other instruments you dont have (through interface to computer to soft synths to the recorder) like drums or string sections.
you shoud buy an electric metronome and feed it through your head phones so you dont get out of time.
if you want to get serious (business or selling your music) sound proofing can go a long way. you can sound proof the room your in (with that spongy foam stuff).this way you wont get unwanted feedback, echos, delay and reverb. its called making the room dry. i record stuff and i have pa system. you might need it if you have singers.
this might sound stupid…but somewhere to put extra guitar picks. it sucks if your doing a perfect take and you drop a pick near the end, so you have to start again. this will useful
    good luck with your recording

thick curtains, carpet, as for hardware I suggest the presonus fp10, it gives you all the capabilities of a home recording digital multi track, and gives you plenty of room to expand. Fruityloops is also nice for digital fill in. There is a lot of different things to learn in recording and production, but if you stay persistent you’ll learn a lot from it.
