I’m thinking about getting a bigger 10 gallon for some guppies that i have… would it require a light (like a hood for it). Also does it need a heater? I think guppies do fine at room temp…
also guppies don’t jump do they? so i don’t need a cover on it?

Yes, get a hood with light, guppies do jump, especially it the water parameters aren’t right.
You should also put some live plants like Java Fern inside for them to play in. Live plants also produce O2 and reduce nitrate levels in the tank.
I don’t use a heater.
A light is mostly unnecessary. The light in the room is enough to set the day/night cycle for the guppies, but a light will allow you to see your fish better, or get some live plants if you want them.
Guppies are more adaptable to temperature than many fish, but are tropical fish. The temperature should really be 78-82 degrees, so you’ll want a heater. They might do okay at room temperature, but are more susceptible to disease, stress, and other problems at lower temperatures.
A filter you definitely need. A basic sponge filter, powered by an air pump, is effective and cheap. A basic power filter like an Aquaclear 20 is also inexpensive and effective.
They can jump. Some fish are more likely to do that than others, but losing a fish due to jumping is really not pleasant. You don’t need a fancy lighted hood fit to the aquarium if you don’t want one. You can use a mesh lid like those sold for reptile aquariums, plastic egg crate material from home depot, a sheet of glass or plastic, or any other type of improvised cover.
